Ensure your dog is calm and comfortable before starting. If your dog is new to claw trimming, having another person gently support them may help. Open the clippers by pulling the safety catch downwards. Hold your dog’s paw securely and keep the toe steady. Position the claw in the indented nail guide, using the guard to help limit the amount removed. Carefully place the clippers over the very tip of the claw and squeeze the handles to trim a small amount.
For dogs that are new to grooming, introduce the clippers slowly. Begin grooming sessions when your dog is relaxed and, where possible, after exercise. Keep sessions brief initially and gradually increase their length as your dog becomes comfortable with grooming. Offer plenty of reassurance throughout the session and pause or end grooming if your dog becomes agitated or shows signs of stress.
Important Safety Advice:
Only trim a small amount from the very tip of the claw. Cutting too far can damage the quick, which contains blood vessels and nerves, causing pain and bleeding. The quick can be difficult to see in dark claws, so take extra care and examine the underside of the claw where possible.
Even if your dog’s claws are long, proceed cautiously and trim small amounts at a time. Regular, gradual trimming can help the quick recede over time. If you are unsure where to cut, seek advice from a veterinary professional or qualified groomer.

Care Instructions:
